If you step into a rift, you’ll be transported to a place called the Nexus, a mysterious crossroads where all dimensions meet. Once there, you must locate and touch five specific objects in the correct sequence to unlock the path to the Emporium. These objects are tied to the Emporium’s dimensional code:
- A pineapple-shaped lamp
- A bicycle with square wheels
- A pet rock with googly eyes
- An umbrella that rains glitter
- A talking cactus named Fred
The Lamina Device: Travelers from more advanced worlds often carry a sleek tool called the Lamina, a device that bridges dimensions. By entering the Emporium’s unique 5-Object Code into its interface, the Lamina briefly displays glowing artifacts around you, syncing to the multiverse. Within moments, the Lamina shifts you seamlessly to the Emporium, bypassing the Nexus entirely. It’s fast, efficient, and perfect for repeat visitors!
Both methods ensure you arrive safely in the Emporium, appearing near the geographic equivalent of your starting point in its dimension.
Important Stuff to Know
- Money: They don't use dollars, pounds, or any Earth currency at the Emporium. The currency is called Ducats. You can exchange your money for Ducats at special exchange booths found throughout the Emporium. Think of it like getting Euros before a trip to Europe, but a bit more…out of this world!
- Time: They have their own way of measuring time at the Emporium, called the Unified Time System (UTS). Don't worry, your watch will still work, but their calendar is slightly different than ours. Keep an eye on the time so you don't accidentally miss your ride home!
- Safety: The Emporium is a remarkably safe place for a universe-hopping marketplace. Still, it's enormous and easy to get turned around. If you get seriously lost or something goes wrong, there are ways to get help. Look for Emporium staff (they often wear bright uniforms) or dial AAAAAA-000-00000 on any interdimensional communication device.
- Language: One of the Emporium's greatest mysteries is the way communication flows effortlessly across the cosmos. You'll speak your native tongue – English, Mandarin, Xhosa, even the clicking language of the insectoids from Earth Nebula 7 – and somehow, everyone comprehends. Vendors will understand your questions, signs will translate themselves before your eyes. Theories abound: universal translation implants, psychic resonance fields, the universe itself bending to the will of commerce... but the truth? That's for philosophers to contemplate.
